A major expansion of Whitianga's marina, adding berthage and hard protection while keeping the working waterfront live throughout construction.
The challenge
Whitianga's marina had run out of berths, and any expansion had to shelter new berthage from the harbour's wave climate without ever closing the working waterfront.
What we did
Urban Solutions led the civil and marine design for the F Pier extension, setting out the new berths, sizing the vertical break wall for the local conditions, and staging the works so the marina stayed operational throughout.
The outcome
The marina gained thirty-two new berths behind a 220-metre vertical break wall, delivered while the existing facility kept running for its tenants.
